New Edition of Interdisciplinary Sustainability Workshop Analyses Living Sustainably While Maintaining Quality of Life

The 6th Interdisciplinary Sustainability Workshop was held on Thursday, 19 March 2015. It was organized by the Vice Rector's Office for the University Community through the UIC Barcelona Office of Sustainability. The aim of this year's workshop was to determine if it is possible to maintain responsible, sustainable consumer habits without giving up quality of life.

Following the recommendations of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development Rio+20 (2012) and the Post-2015 Development Agenda, the workshop reviewed consumer patterns as a strategy for helping reduce poverty and hunger.

Papers were presented by experts in the roundtable discussion and conference, while participants were able to present their own proposals and take part in interactive workshops. The aim was to reflect on the ethical factor in environmental, economic and social problems involving the wasteful use of resources.

According to Sílvia Albareda, the UIC Director of Sustainability, “The entire UIC Barcelona university community is invited to examine where resources like mobile phones that we use and consume on a daily basis come from and where they go. We all should question whether human rights and the earth's regenerative capacity are being respected”.
