A new edition of our Master's Degree in Biodigital Architecture is being launched

In January the 2016 edition of the University Master's Degree in Biodigital Architecture 2016 was launched. The course Director is Professor and Architect Dr Alberto T. Estévez. This year the students who are attending this course are from ten different countries: Argentina, Spain, India, Italy, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Norway, South Africa and Turkey.

This pioneering postgraduate programme combines architecture and design, biology and new digital technologies, and has a unique perspective of architecture from both a biological and a digital point of view. The course brings together the biological and the digital, in architecture and design, and also works with digital tools and organic forms, the application of genetics, elements related to metaphysics and computation, emergence theories, and the philosophy of the emerging nature of life. The work and personalities of Antoni Gaudí and Salvador Dalí are also studied, since they have influenced biodigital architecture. The course also involves learning how to use advanced software for architecture, parametric programmes, CAD/CAM, and scripting etc.

As part of the Master's degree programme, and entitled “Genetic Architectures Seminar”, conferences will be given by renowned architects and researchers, both national and international. This year they include Karl Chu, Ana Cocho-Bermejo, Josep Corcó, Lula Criado, Dennis Dollens, Ernest Ferré, Agustí Fontarnau, Luis Fraguada, Arturo Frediani, Neil Leach, Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa, Diego Navarro, Affonso Orciuoli, Ignasi Pérez-Arnal, Judith Urbano, and Maria Voyatzaki, etc. The conferences will be curated by Dr Alberto T. Estévez, Director of the aforementioned Master's degree and Full Professor of Architectural Design and Projects at UIC Barcelona's School of Architecture.

The book entitled “Biodigital Architecture & Genetics: Writings”, which commemorates fifteen years of the Master's degree in Biodigital Architecture, written by the Director of the programme Dr Alberto T. Estévez, has recently been reviewed in prestigious publications such as Arquitectura Viva and El Croquis.
