New graduates in Primary Education told: «You have one of the most rewarding tasks in the world ahead of you»

Last Friday, in the Aula Magna of UIC Barcelona, the graduation ceremony was held for students of Primary Education. This year's class patron was Dr Miquel Martínez Martín, a professor from the University of Barcelona and president of the Coordination Committee for the MIF programme (aimed at improvements and innovation in teaching).

The Faculty of Education lecturer, Salvador Vidal, opened the event by welcoming the families and guests. He handed over to this year's class patron. Dr Martínez told the new teachers that the work they do “entails a measure of uncertainty which makes it particularly rewarding”. He also encouraged them to “go back to the beginning if something goes wrong”.

According to the patron, “You have one of the most rewarding tasks in the world ahead of you; every year they will get younger because each time your pupils will get smaller”. This is how he encouraged the students to have confidence in their capacity to help pupils with all their peculiarities.

After the professor's contribution, the student Sergio Maldonado, representing all the students who were graduating, thanked the teaching staff, families and friends who had supported them along the way and proposed “fighting on behalf of all the children we must educate: we are capable of changing the society that faces us”.

Lastly, the Dean of the Faculty, Assumpció Verdera, addressed a few words to the newly qualified teachers: “Never lose the desire to be teachers and transformers of the educational society that surrounds you”. She also asked that, as teachers, they never abandon their values, that they act as role models and that they teach “the virtues”.
