Starting in October 2012, the UIC will offer a Master's Degree Programme in Legal Practice, which will be the first of its kind for three reasons: it brings together in one programme all areas of advice and litigation that will enable students to practise law from a business perspective; its teaching is based on the case-study method and uses paradigmatic examples from a wide range of professional areas; and it benefits from teachers that include some of the key partners and lawyers at the most prestigious law firms in Barcelona, as well as first-rate academics, solicitors, registrars and legal secretaries.
This programme aims to help students access the legal
profession and it is therefore purely vocational in nature. The
main objective of the Master's Degree Programme in Legal Practice is to train
students in the real-life application of theoretical knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's
Degree Programme in Law by examining actual cases of professional advice and
litigation and forensic proceedings, and in doing so, prepare students to pass
the bar exam so they can practise law.
The UIC Master's Degree Programme in Legal Practice, which is organized in
collaboration with the Bar Association of Barcelona, will dedicate a whole term
to internships in the prominent law firms that will take part in the programme
(30 out of the 90 credits), and will allow students to master all of the topics
covered in the examination that they must pass to gain access to the legal
profession.
The international law firms
involved in
the programme, in terms of both teaching and internships, are Amat & Vidal-Quadras Advocats, Baker & McKenzie, BM&A, Clifford Chance, Cuatrecasas Gonçalves Pereira, Ernst & Young, Garrigues, Manubens, Pérez Llorca, Roca Junyent, Toda & Nel-lo Abogados, Uría & Menéndez, and Vialegis Duthil. The programme will also
benefit from the participation of the Association of Land and Mercantile
Registrars of Spain and specialist lawyers with their own offices.
