Núria Casals undertakes a research visit at the Institute for Cancer Research with a Ministry grant

Dr Núria Casals, director of the Doctoral School, is currently undertaking a research visit at the Institute for Cancer Research, a centre affiliated with the University of Oslo (Norway). The visit is being funded by a Salvador de Madariaga Mobility Grant from the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

With this research stay, which has a duration of three months (April to June), Dr Casals will have the chance to work in the Harald Stenmark Laboratory, where she will look at how nutrients regulate endosomal transport in cells. “This phenomenon is very important for the migration and metastasis of cancer cells, as well as for the axonal growth of neurons”, explains Dr Casals.

The laboratory in which the team led by professor Harald Stemark works belongs to the Institute for Cancer Research’s Department of Molecular Cell Biology. In addition to Dr Harald Stenmark, the project in which Dr Casals is involved also includes Dr Camilla Raiborg, the primary collaborator in Dr Stenmark’s group.

The Salvador de Madariaga Mobility Grant is intended for lecturers and senior researchers interested in undertaking a research stay at a foreign institution. Altogether, of the 400 grants available, 70 are reserved for institutions in the US, while some are part of the Fullbright Programme.
