Nuria Matilla, a pre-doctoral student from the Evaluation Group on Determining Factors in Health and Healthcare Policies, was awarded a mobility grant from the Barcelona Friends of the Country Economic Society on 25 March. With the help of this grant, she will be able to undertake a research visit at the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) in order to continue her doctoral project on Determining Factors in Health and Healthcare Policies: precarious work and new types of work.

 

Her thesis is based on measuring precarious work and its impact on the health of the working population in the European Union.  Also, due to the similarity of the characteristics of precarious work and new types of work involving digital labour platforms, she has also described exposure to risks at work for the latter type of worker in Barcelona.  “The aim of this research visit is to learn new innovative strategies to sample populations we have restricted access to, such as digital labour platforms, etc. “

 

During her two-month visit, Nuria Matilla will be hosted by the Occupational Medicine Unit at the Karolinska Institute and will supervised by an assistant professor from the Institute, Theo Bodin. “Being awarded this grant is a great opportunity for me” she said. “The group I will join for the duration of my research visit is undertaking a large project entitled ‘The new world of work’ which joins together various projects on precarious work and the impact it has on people’s health”.
