Nuria Palomares and Ihor Prissiajnyi, the fastest runners from UIC Barcelona in the 6th edition of UNIRUN
On Sunday 1 March, a total of 5,000 runners, an unprecedented number of participants, took part in the 6th edition of UNIRUN. This Catalan university race, which spans 6,779 metres and starts and finishes at Parc del Fòrum, is promoted by the ECU (Catalan University Sport).
UIC Barcelona was represented by 137 runners. The two fastest runners from UIC Barcelona were third year Advertising student, Nuria Palomares with a time of 28 minutes and 47 seconds, and fifth year Medicine student, Ihor Prissiajnyi who finished in 23 minutes and 51 seconds.
Similarly, the fastest men’s time was recorded by Alejandro Abellaneda who was running for the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), whilst the first woman to cross the finish line was the runner from the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Neus Mas.
The UNIRUN, which followed the coastal route through the districts of Sant Martí and Sant Adrià de Besòs, was supported by Barcelona City Council, the General Secretary for Sport and the Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council, and organised by Gaudium Sports. With Adidas as the official sponsor, the race among the 12 Catalan universities was awash with jerseys featuring the brand’s three stripes as well as each university’s institutional logo.
