Our graduate Núria Francisco presents her first documentary at UIC Barcelona

Nuria Francisco, an Audiovisual Communications 2012 graduate, presented her first documentary entitled David, last Thursday. The documentary tells the story of David, a young man who overcomes cancer.

Núria Francisco’s family members, colleagues and the production team for the documentary, representatives of the Faculty of Communication Sciences and students also attended the event. The Dean, Alfonso Méndiz, was very enthusiastic to see results obtained by students who have passed through our faculty.  “For me- he said- each of my students’ successes is a gift.  Our dream is also to ensure that each of our students can achieve their dreams and then show them to us”.

In that sense, Méndiz encouraged the students attending as follows: “Tell stories that are worthwhile, that awaken real emotions. This documentary does so and I would like it to act as an incentive so that other students are encouraged to undertake similar projects”.

The documentary is close to half an hour in length. Through an interview with the protagonist and a fictional representation of the facts of his life, David’s story, which he tells himself, includes a cancer diagnosis and the story of how he overcame this disease. It also describes the depression he subsequently suffered from.

Afterwards, Francisco thanked the attendees for being there for her big day and talked about to the story behind the documentary, which made a big impact on her. She repeated one of main messages transmitted by the protagonist: “I like to think that doctors cure you, but that nurses give you life”.
