Over 100 young people take part in the 11th Health Promotion Day

Organised by second-year Nursing students, the event raises awareness among young people about the importance of taking care of physical and mental health, as well as the risks involved in alcohol and drug abuse

On February 24, the Sant Cugat Campus hosted a new edition of the Health Promotion Day, aimed at young people in their 3rd and 4th years of secondary education, baccalaureate or vocational training in schools throughout Catalonia. The initiative is run by the Department of Nursing at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, with activities organised by second-year Nursing degree students.

Under the slogan “What happens when you go too far?”, more than 100 young people took part in different workshops and activities showing scenarios in which nursing students used practical, visual methods to raise awareness of the risks of alcohol and drug abuse, how to respond to bullying and abuse, responsible social media use, and how to perform CPR. In addition, this year’s Health Promotion Day featured the new addition of a mental health workshop.

As in previous years, the organisers received support from first-year Nursing students, as well as the Emergency Medical Service (SEM).

Besides raising awareness among many young people all over Catalonia about the importance of prevention and maintaining healthy habits, Health Promotion Day allowed Nursing students to put their training into practice in community nursing.
