Packed Culture Week at UIC Barcelona

The sale of books and charity roses, theatre performances and painting exhibitions, the Rector’s chess and football tournaments, photography and literary contests and a film forum were just some of the activities that took place this week at UIC Barcelona as part of Culture Week.

Between 19 and 25 April 2015, UIC Barcelona celebrated Culture Week, seven days in which the university holds activities linked to culture, charity and sports. “It’s clear that education, culture and numerous skills are acquired and expressed through the activities carried out during Culture Week,” said Dr. Belén Zárate, Vice Rector for the University Community.

In the area of culture, the Barcelona campus Theatre Group celebrated its 10th anniversary with the premier of the play Alicia, quin país! (Alice, What a Country!). The Sant Cugat campus Theatre Group also gave a premier performance of the play ¿Un aumento por favor? (Can I have a Raise, Please?).

The winners of the literary and photography contests were also announced during the week. There was a painting exhibition by the Painting Group in the foyer of the Sant Cugat campus.

The Reading Group enjoyed a session with Jaume Vives, the author of Pobres pobres (Poor, Poor Things), and there was a session on the film Zero Dark Thirty for the Film Group.

Meanwhile, the UIC Choir gave a special concert on Thursday, 23 April 2015.

In terms of charity work, three exceptional campaigns were carried out: a rose sale, with the profits to go towards the summer camps organized by the UIC, the Recycling Culture initiative, and lastly, a milk collection campaign run by Caritas in which UIC Barcelona took part for the first time.

In the area of sports, the Rector’s Chess Tournament and the Rector’s Football 7 Tournament were held.
