The Perfetti Method: Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise

On Thursday, 23 February 2012, physiotherapist Judith Soler, an expert in the Perfetti Method, gave a lecture about this innovative method, what it consists of and how it can be used to alleviate chronic pain. The lecture formed part of a series of conferences that are regularly organized by the UIC's Department of Physiotherapy.

Cognitive
Therapeutic Exercise, commonly known as the Perfetti Method, is a
rehabilitation method developed by Italian neurologist Carlo Perfetti in the
early 1970s.

The
method uses the concept of motor image to influence the sensation of pain,
modify neuroplasticity and correct the inconsistencies detected by the brain and
expressed as chronic pain.

During
the presentation, the speaker demonstrated the relationship between pain,
cognition, emotions, sensations and brain plasticity through a video of her own
clinical approach so that those present could see the effectiveness of the
method for themselves.
