On Saturday, 23 May 2015, the UIC Barcelona organized a conference focusing on the treatment of spinal disc herniation (commonly known as a "slipped disc”) from a physiotherapy perspective. The event took place on the Sant Cugat campus and was attended by more than 50 physiotherapists and other related professionals.
During the conference, the speakers presented and discussed the different treatment options that are available to patients. The session began with a talk on the surgical treatment of slipped discs by Dr. Jordi Español, the Head of Spinal Surgery at Terrassa Hospital. Afterwards, theoretical and practical workshops were given on the treatment options that are available from a physiotherapy perspective, such as the Mézières method, manual therapy (using the POLD method) and energetic techniques such as the Poyet method of osteopathy.
In total, four workshops took place throughout the day. The professionals who ran them - namely, Juan Ramón Revilla, Jordi Gascón, Miquel Ángel Pérez, Dolors Toro and Juan Vicente López – gave examples of the techniques they were presenting and provided information to those attending.
