Play Successfully Premiered by Barcelona Campus Theatre Group

On Wednesday, 24 April 2013, the Barcelona campus theatre group premiered this year's new play El Principiant (The Novice) in the main lecture hall as part of UIC's Cultural Week. The play is a loose adaptation of The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

The Novice lives in his own little world, worried about the small dangers that may threaten his pleasant, little existence and enjoying the small pleasures in life, like sunsets. He needs nothing else to be happy, until love comes into his life in the shape of a flower. The adventure begins when the Novice must embark on a long journey in search of the purest, clearest, cleanest water that springs from a hidden well in the middle of the desert in order to revive his love and save his flower.

"The play blends humour and poetry as a way of reaching things we've forgotten about, things that are truly essential on a planet full of contradictory human beings who only worry about what they consider to be important", the theatre group explained in the programme.

On this occasion, the thirteen students who participated in the play showed the extent of their creativity even in the music and audiovisual projections. The plot is a result of the adaptation of the book by the writer Emili Corral.

The theatre group has performed other plays such as Therapy Express, 4x4, Circ City, The Forced Marriage or Lost Love, Quack! Remembrance of the Lost Goose and Tourmix. The director of the theatre groups on both campuses is Carles Bigorra, an actor, director and teacher who was one of the founders of the theatre company TeatraparT in Barcelona in 2007.
