Professor Agustina Analyses Right to Privacy in Criminal Investigations

Dr. José Ramón Agustina, a professor in the UIC Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences, presented the paper «Crime Prevention and Reaction Strategies Versus Privacy: Technology, Criminal Evidence and Proof» at the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg, Texas.

During his talk, which took place on Thursday, 8
November 2012, Dr. Agustina dealt with the controversial issue of an individual's
right to privacy versus media coverage of cases involving criminal
investigation and crime prevention.

While he was in the United States, Agustina also attended the American
Society of Criminology's Annual Meeting in Chicago on Thursday, 15 November
2012. There he presented another paper, “Youth Hangouts: Scenarios and Crime”,
together with Marcus Felson, a professor at Texas State University and a
criminology expert.

The American Society of Criminology is an organization
whose members pursue scholarly, scientific and professional knowledge
concerning the measurement, aetiology, consequences, prevention, control and
treatment of crime and delinquency. Its members include students, practitioners
and academics from the many fields of criminal justice and criminology.

In the 2011-2012 academic year, professor Felson was a
guest speaker at the alumni criminology conference organized by the UIC Faculty
of Legal and Political Sciences.
