Professor Albert Garrido Presents Book on Arab Spring

On Thursday, 20 June 2013, Albert Garrido, a journalist and teacher in the UIC Faculty of Communication Sciences, presented the book La Sacudida Árabe (The Arab Upheaval) at the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed).

During the presentation, there was a roundtable discussion with the participation of historian Antoni Segura and Lurdes Vidal, the head of the Arab and Mediterranean World section of the IEMed.

In his book, Garrido analyses the reasons, development and consequences of the uprisings that took place in some Arab countries in 2011. According to the author, these revolts forced Arab societies to reconsider the way they grow and modernize, prompted the West to review its relationship with these countries, and made it necessary for the new regimes to address the religious nature of the state.

Garrido is a journalist who contributes to the newspaper El Periódico de Catalunya. He also currently teaches in the UIC Faculty of Communication Sciences and at Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
