Professor Encarna Rodríguez talks about OSCE in Nursing during a European Federation of Nurse Educators workshop
Dr Encarna Rodríguez, Coordinator of the Area of Nursing Simulation at UIC Barcelona participated in the event with the following paper "La ECOE y la práctica docente reflexiva” [OSCE and reflective teaching practice] at an international workshop organised by the European Federation of Nurse Educators (FINE) and held in Barcelona at the end of January. Rodríguez presented her experience of OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) at UIC Barcelona, one of the universities that has pioneered this type of examination in Spain. Dr Rodríguez’s paper was well-received by both national and international attendees.
The OSCE is a higher level method of evaluation for which students must develop and execute their skills through between 15 and 20 clinical cases which are carried out in the Comprehensive Advanced Clinical Simulation Centre in the university. Although this method of simulation is widespread internationally, sitting the OSCE exam is not compulsory when studying nursing in Spain. UIC Barcelona is one of the first Spanish universities that has implemented it and the only Catalan or Spanish university to set this exam every academic year.
