Professor Jiménez writes a chapter in a new book by Carmen Llamas

The publication analyses political discourse from various points of view

One of our professors from the Faculty of Law, Ricardo Jiménez, has written a chapter entitled El análisis del discurso político: géneros y metodologías [Analysing political discourse: genres and methodologies], in a new book written by Carmen Llamas.

The chapter focuses on Jiménez’s own study, where he provides an analysis of gender frames in the electoral programme in relation to the issue of education, in recent electoral programmes by two Spanish political parties. “Studying the electoral programmes of political parties is a little explored subgenre” said Jiménez.

Llamas’ book aims to respond to the research problems that arise at every stage during the analysis of such a changeable genre as political discourse. In order to do this, the author provided eight examples of different political genres, from parliamentary discourse and electoral programmes to party websites and electoral campaigns on Twitter.

Apart from Professor Jiménez, some of the other co-authors of the book are recognised academics in the field of the study of political discourse such as for example Beatriz Gallardo, Catalina Fuente, Carmen Sancho and Manuel Alcántara-Plá.
