Maria Pujol, a Professor from the Faculty of Education at UIC Barcelona, presented a paper at the British Comparative Literature Association 2016: Salvage (BCLA 2016, which took place in Wolverhampton England).
The paper entitled –“How to recover, transform and transfer Robinson Crusoe and John Silver into another literature”– was based on an analysis carried out by Professor Colina of two novels written by Josep Vallverdú based on Robinson Crusoe and Treasure Island. During her presentation she described the fact that the Vallverdú novels Las Razones de Viernes and El testamento de John Silver, respond highly consistently to the influences of the author as well as the Western literary tradition.
They are two novels that are based on the classics written in English Robinson Crusoe and Treasure Island: Las Razones de Viernes takes the plot of Robinson Crusoe, but the person telling the story here is Friday, Robinson Crusoe’s slave, and not Robinson himself; El testamento de John Silver is a continuation of Treasure Island because it describes what the pirate John Silver does after leaving the boat called “La Hispaniola”.
BCLA 2016: Salvage considered the international and transnational circulation of textuality within the broadest comparative and historical framework.
