Ramon Olivé, a lecturer in the UIC Barcelona Department of Physiotherapy, helped draft the Consensus Document on Treatment of Acute Muscle Injury, which was prepared during the multidisciplinary meeting held at Madrid’s CMETRO Clinic and is due for release soon.
More than 30 specialists from scientific fields such as physiotherapy, trauma care, molecular biology and sports medicine contributed their knowledge to a “comprehensive practice manual” for the treatment of these types of injuries. The manual provides an updated summary of how to deal with muscle injuries and takes into consideration all the effects associated with such injuries.
The document will provide first-aid information for treating patients when they first suffer an injury and information on follow-up drug treatment to reduce after-effects such as excessive scarring of the affected muscle and to speed up recovery time. It also establishes the criteria to be considered when the muscle has healed and regained enough strength so that patients can resume their routine without compromising the healing process.
