On 15 April, professor Josep Serrano gave a talk in the Faculty of Law at the Universitat de València in which he explained the history behind the codification of Catalan civil law. 

As part of the 9th History Conference, his talk addressed the origins of Catalan civil law from the creation of Catalonia to present day, detailing the historical sources and the changes made following the Nueva Planta decrees in 1716.

He also discussed the problems posed by the codification undertaken in the 19th and 20th centuries, with special mention of its present form: the so-called Civil Code of Catalonia.
