The project led by the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences Professor, Toni Mora, has been selected in the first round of "la Caixa" Foundation Social Research Call, an initiative aimed at supporting the development of social research that seeks a greater understanding of the most pressing social challenges.
The study targets the low-income population group who are recipients of Red Cross vouchers for purchase of foodstuff in BonÀrea supermarket. The project proposes an intervention that provides information on how to improve their purchasing decisions. It has the institutional support of the Catalan Government Ministry of Public Health and the Red Cross Catalonia, and the aim is to achieve healthier purchases with the food vouchers. All the products on sale will be classified according to whether an increase or decrease in their consumption is sought. At the same time, they are looking to identify any possible variation in the effects according to individuals’ characteristics. The intervention will be conducted through workshops on nutrition, text messages and incentives.
This is one of the 15 social research projects chosen from among 524 nominations received by "la Caixa" Foundation in this first call. The foundation has just launched the second Social Research Call, which has a funding of 1.5 million euros for projects that provide knowledge about new social phenomena, some of which have emerged as a result of the pandemic.
