Renowned Professor Delivers Dentistry Lecture to Master's Students

On Thursday and Friday, 28-29 June 2012, Dr. Robert L. Vanarsdall, who has been the Chair of the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine for the last 40 years, gave a master class on his specialist area of knowledge to master's students in the UIC Faculty of Dentistry, in particular those studying orthodontics and periodontology.

Dr.
Vanarsdall is well known in his field, as he created the first postgraduate
programme in periodontics and orthodontics and is one of the most prolific
authors on adult orthodontics. He has written numerous clinical and research
works, is the co-writer of the most prestigious book on orthodontics (Orthodontics: Current Principles and
Techniques
by Graber, Vanarsdall and Vig) and an editor at the
international Journal of Adult
Orthodontics and Orthognathic Surgery
, as well as a reviewer of the most
prominent scientific journals in the field of orthodontics and periodontology.

The
lectures, which specifically dealt with the relationship between orthodontics
and periodontology, was coordinated by Dr. Andreu Puigdollers, the Head of Orthodontics and
Dentofacial Orthopaedics, and Dr. José Nart, the Head of Periodontology, along
with Dr. Ignacio Blasi, one of Dr.
Vanarsdall's former students, who also studied at the UIC. Following the
lecture on Thursday, 28 June, Dr. Vanarsdall met with Dr. Lluís Giner and Dr. Ignacio Segarra, the
Dean and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, respectively.
