Researchers from the area of Periodontology receive a grant from the Oral Reconstruction Foundation

This grant is to be used to undertake a clinical study to compare the behaviour of biomaterials used for the reconstruction of the soft tissue around dental implants

The research group in the area of Periodontology led by Dr Andrés Pascual, director of the Master's Degree in Periodontology at UIC Barcelona, has received a grant from the Oral Reconstruction Foundation to carry out a clinical study in the field of implantology. The project will be undertaken in the University Dental Clinic at UIC Barcelona.

The study is entitled  “Behavioural comparison of three different graft materials to increase soft tissue thick-neck around dental implants in terms of volume gain and stability over time: A randomised controlled clinical trial”. The grant is to be used to undertake a clinical study to compare the behaviour of biomaterials used for the reconstruction of the soft tissue around dental implants. “We want to know whether its characteristics can be comparable to the individual’s own tissues,” the authors explain, “since this uncertainly is gaining more and more weight among clinicians.”

The research team includes Dr Andrés Pascual, Dr Ramón Pons, Dr Cristina Vallès and Dr José Nart. “Without a doubt, receiving this grant makes me feel very proud,” said Pascual, “this opportunity provides recognition for the work we have been undertaking over the twenty years we have been teaching this master’s degree for.”

The Oral Reconstruction Foundation's grant aims to promote scientific knowledge in the field of oral implantology and its benefits in terms of improving well-being in patients' lives.
