Reunion for Alumni From First Dentistry Graduating Class

It was 1997 when the first classes were held on the Sant Cugat campus that would eventually form part of the medical programme. However, the UIC medical programme had to wait and students were given the opportunity to study dentistry. They became the first class of a study area that has grown considerably at the UIC. On Friday, 6 July 2012, the alumni held their ten-year reunion.

About thirty
alumni participated in the reunion held in the Graduate Hall. They were
received by two deans of the Faculty of Dentistry, the current one, Dr. Lluís Giner, and
the one who started the faculty, Dr. Miquel Cortada, and by Professor Pilar Gual.

Dr. Giner thanked
the alumni for the trust placed in the faculty nearly fifteen years ago and in
"a programme that we have gradually remodelled, but which is not much
different from the one required by the Bologna Process". Giner recalled
moments when "the lack of physical equipment was more than made up for by
the professionals in charge". Finally, he encouraged those attending
"to be very careful in their personal lives and to find the balance
between their profession and the time they spend with the family".

In his speech, Dr.
Cortada referred to the current economic situation and said, "Now is the
time for major specialization and working on joint projects". "The
solitary dentist is a thing of the past", he concluded. Cortada also spoke
about the importance of continuous education and reminded everyone that the
Dentistry Refresher Course is held on the first Saturday in October each year
so that everyone can participate and share experiences.

Before making a
toast with cava, Pablo Altuna, the representative of the first graduating class, concluded by
sincerely thanking the alumni who had organized the reunion and everyone in
attendance. He went on to tell a few anecdotes about his years studying in the
faculty.
