On 6–7 May, the "Teaching Methodology: an Opportunity for Research" conference was held at the Sant Cugat Campus. Organised by the Emerging Research Group in Health Education, the event boasted the presence of Dr Leena Salminen, lecturer at the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Turku (Finland) and expert in health education.
The conference attracted 40 health science lecturers from universities including the Sant Pau Nursing School University, Parc de Salut Mar College of Nursing, Gimbernat College, the University of Vic, the University of the Balearic Islands, the University of Girona and UIC Barcelona. Over the two days, the attending doctors and nurses shared their experiences with teaching methodology and research on teaching.
As coordinator of the organising research group Dr Albert Gallart put it, "one main conclusion from this event is that we need to adapt, as teachers, to the new digital tools to update the methodology we've been using until now". "By using social networks and virtual environments, we'll be able to work with the same communication tools as our students use to foster their critical thinking and autonomy when learning", said Dr Gallart. Other themes to emerge were the importance of developing new crosscutting skills in health degree curriculums and interdisciplinarity, leadership and patient safety.
