The Sant Cugat campus brings more than 1,000 professionals together at the 17th Updates in Dentistry Conference

As part of the conference, the Dr Miquel Cortada Awards for scientific excellence were presented to the best Final Degree Project and the best Final Master's Project. The II Career Forum, promoted by the Alumni & Careers department, was also held.

On Saturday 5 October, the Sant Cugat campus once again became the meeting point for over 1,000 professionals in the dental sector who participated in the 17th Dental Update Conference. Organised by the Faculty of Dentistry, the conference reaffirms itself as the leading event where professionals from different areas of dentistry and hygienists can update their knowledge and improve their clinical skills.

Led by professors and postgraduate students who are leaders in their fields, participants were able to attend lectures and workshops focusing on the key specialities of the sector and the latest treatments and techniques in surgery, integrated clinic, endodontics, dental aesthetics, dental management, paediatric dentistry, orthodontics, special patients and gerodontology, periodontics, preventive dentistry and prosthetics.

Dr Lluís Giner, dean of the Faculty, opened the event, emphasising that ‘for the whole family that makes up the Faculty of Dentistry, we are proud to celebrate the seventeenth edition of this event, where we can reconnect with former students and colleagues who share our passion for dentistry. It reminds us that, not only do we train great professionals who never stop learning, but we have also created a close and personal bond between all those who have been and are part of the Faculty”.

As part of the meeting, the traditional Dr Miquel Cortada Awards were handed out. The winners were announced by Dr Sandra Fernández and Dr Akram Ali, vice-deans of the Faculty: Lise Brahic in the category of Best Final Degree Project for the paper “Physiotherapy of facial trigger points applied to dentistry”, and Maria Chiara Cappiello in the category of Best Final Master's Project by the study “Comparison of aesthetic perception and acceptance of silver diamine fluoride pigmentation between Italian and Spanish parents.”

Following the success of its first edition, the conference hosted the II Career Forum, an initiative organised by the Alumni & Career department with the aim of creating a networking space between students and companies in the sector. Eleven companies from the sector took part in the meeting, giving the faculty's students an insight into the world of work by presenting their job offers and giving them the opportunity to make professional contacts.

As in the previous editions, the Updates in Dentistry Conference was also a meeting point for the students from the Class of 2004, who celebrated their 20th anniversary this year. The event, chaired by Dr Lluís Giner, dean of the Faculty, highlighted the importance of these meetings to maintain and strengthen the ties between alums and the university community of the Faculty.

Twenty-two leading companies in the sector sponsored and contributed to the 17th Updates in Dentistry Conference, where they presented the latest innovations in dental technology and material.
