Santacana Discusses Creation and Evolution of FC Barcelona

On Friday, 22 March 2013, Dr. Carles Santacana gave a lecture on the creation and evolution of the Barcelona Football Club as part of the subject FCB Institution taught by professor Eduard Pujol for students enrolled in the UIC Master's Programme in Sports Journalism.

During the lecture, Santacana discussed the key factors in the creation and development of the Barcelona club. He specifically dealt with the social context, political situation and changes in the rules of the game. He also addressed the evolution of the media and how sports news is handled. At the same time, Santacana gave an overview of FC Barcelona's most important milestones from its beginnings to the present day.

Dr. Carles Santacana i Torres has a PhD in Contemporary History from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB). He has published several books, including El Barça i el franquisme. Crònica d’uns anys decisius per a Catalunya (1968-1978) (Barça and Francoism: Chronicle of Decisive Years for Catalonia). He is currently a professor of Contemporary History at the UB, a consultant for the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya and the President of the Centre d’Estudis de l’Hospitalet.
