Second Conference of UIC Department of Mission-Based Management and Corporate Governance
The UIC Department of Mission-Based Management and Corporate Governance has held its second conference with the companies that have been involved in the research since the department's creation in April 2012. The conference included an inaugural speech by Miguel Ángel Ariño, a professor of Managerial Decision Sciences at IESE Business School, and took place in the research centre of Semillas Fitó, a company that forms part of the department.
The meeting addressed the implementation of the mission-based management
model in some of the companies that belong to the department or work with it.
In particular, it highlighted the model’s implementation in the company
Semillas Fitó. The company Synthon Hispania, which works with the department,
also took part in the conference with a presentation about its successful
experience with change management.
Carlos Rey, the director of the department and a professor of
strategy in the UIC Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, gave a lecture on
“Boards of Directors” at the company Jiménez
Maña. Dr. Miquel Bastons, the dean of the Faculty of Economic and
Social Sciences, then outlined the latest advances in the lines of research and
introduced the department’s new Scientific Committee.
Through the mission-based management model, the department offers
a new management approach that enriches traditional management by objectives.
It includes the concept of the mission in the management system, positions
objectives so that they serve the mission and promotes employees’ commitment to
it.
Initially, the department is being supported by six companies from
different industries that have committed to this new management model: Jiménez Maña (automotive
industry), the main sponsor; Semillas Fitó (agricultural industry); Kern Pharma
(pharmaceutical industry); Aitex (textile industry); JJC Contratistas Generales
(construction industry); and Industrial Química del Nalón (chemical industry).
The department is currently preparing its third conference with
the companies involved in the research, as well as an annual symposium on Mission-Based
Management, both of which are due to take place in February 2013.
