Second Edition of Practical Course on Aesthetic Surgery and Facial Rejuvenation

On Thursday and Friday, 25-26 April 2013, over 20 cosmetic surgeons from around the world took part in the 2nd International Training Course on Aesthetic Surgery and Facial Rejuvenation organized by the UIC Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Over the two days, participants worked with cryopreserved anatomical material from the Body Donation Services for Laboratories and were taught by renowned cosmetic surgeons, such as Dr. Antonio Tapia and Dr. Roberto Grella.

The course, led by faculty professors Dr. Josep Maria Serra-Renom and Dr. Marian Lorente, together with Dr. Francesco D’Andrea, from the Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli, included both theoretical and practical components. The theoretical component dealt with the most important anatomical sites and advances in surgical techniques in cosmetic surgery. In the practical component, participants were given the opportunity to dissect anatomical structures and carry out surgical techniques.

The course is a joint project of the UIC and the Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli. The objective is to develop a deeper understanding of delicate anatomical structures of the face – such as the facial nerve, extraocular muscles, deposits of orbital fat, retaining ligaments and mimic muscles – and how these structures interrelate in the field of facial cosmetic surgery.
