The second edition of the University Master’s Degree in Language Acquisition and Teaching English as a Foreign Language begins with 27 newly enrolled international students

The second edition of the University Master's Degree in Language Acquisition and Teaching English as a Foreign Language kicked off officially on 6 October following the virtual opening ceremony.
The meeting brought together the vast majority of first-year students enrolled on this year’s Master’s degree; a total of 27 students from a range of nationalities who have chosen to take this Master's degree, first launched in the 2020-2021 academic year. The programme’s main objective is to train professionals to respond effectively to current needs in schools and work in multilingual, multicultural and interdisciplinary environments.
This master’s degree replaces the old Postgraduate Degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and is directed by Dr Angélica Carlet and Dr Helena Roquet. It is taught online from the Faculty of Education Sciences and has a duration of twelve months.
The opening ceremony, led by the directors of the Master's degree and the course coordinator Dr Natalia Evnitskaya, was organised to welcome all newly enrolled students. In addition to informing the students about the teaching methodology and outlining the initial steps students should take in order to benefit from the services offered by the University, the session was attended by Dr Júlia Barón, lecturer at the University of Barcelona (UB) and current member of the Institute for Multilingualism at UIC Barcelona.
Under the title Tancant el cercle: de la recerca a la docència i de la docència a la recerca (‘Coming full circle: from research to teaching and from teaching to research’), Barón gave a speech on the importance of research results, stressing that "it is vital, in any field of language study, that these conclusions are seen by teachers and professors and that it is they who transfer these results to students, who are being trained as future teachers”.
