Seventh Edition of Theoretical and Practical Course on Fitting and Using Microscrews in Orthodontics

On Friday and Saturday, 15-16 February 2013, the Theoretical and Practical Course on Fitting and Using Microscrews in Orthodontics was held for the seventh year in the Faculty of Dentistry's Orthodontics Department, which is run by Dr. Andreu Puigdollers.

The course was coordinated by Dr. Ana Molina, a professor from the UIC Faculty of Dentistry, and was attended by more than 60 students and professionals in the field of dentistry. Among those attending were postgraduate students and teaching staff from the Orthodontics Department at the Universitat de València, who were accompanied by director Dr. José Luis Gandía and Dr. Carmen Asensi.

The programme was divided into a theoretical part and a practical part. The first part examined topics such as the concept of anchoring and included a description of microscrews and how to fit them, their management and their clinical use. It also addressed indications in preprosthetic, vertical and sagittal cases, and included an analysis of clinical situations and the complications that may arise.

In the practical segment, the attendees took part in two simultaneous workshops: firstly, a simulation-based workshop on fitting TADs (temporary anchorage devices) using actual clinical cases, and secondly, a workshop on fitting microscrews from various manufacturers into the heads and teeth of animals.

The course benefited from the collaboration of Dr. Javier Fernández-Bozal, Dr. Fernando de la Iglesia, Dr. Núria Molina, Dr. Paula Ramirez, Dr. Emma Serra and Dr. Andy Walter from the UIC Faculty of Dentistry.

The course was aimed at dentistry students and professionals in the field of dentistry, including orthodontists, periodontists and maxillofacial surgeons.
