Pere Solanellas, the Managing Director of the Àccura sports management group and Sport Assistance Consulting, gave the lecture ?Leadership in Times of Crisis? to third-year Business Administration students. Solanellas, who has many years of experience as the founder and driving force of several business ventures, discussed the most important qualities of an entrepreneur in the current economic crisis.
Starting off with the idea that “there are no leaders today”, Solanellas encouraged the students to look beyond and get past current problems. “Leadership is seeing opportunities where others see problems and threats, especially in matters of efficiency”, said the businessman.
The Managing Director of the Àccura Group explained that real leaders know how to learn from their mistakes and make changes. “A crisis should teach you more about yourself”, said Solanellas. “That is a fundamental characteristic of leadership”. He summed up what he calls “modern leadership” in three words: “work, fun and profits”.
Pere Solanellas was given the Best Business Leader award by the Board of Directors of the Catalan Association of Sports Leadership in 2009. At the end of the lecture, he presented the new UIC Master's Degree Programme in Service Company Management, which begins in the 2013-2014 academic year and which he will direct.
