Straumann and UIC Barcelona create a Chair focused on digital approaches to zygomatic implants

The leading international company in the dental sector combines its extensive experience with the knowledge of UIC Barcelona researchers to develop an innovative project on zygomatic implants

UIC Barcelona and dental solutions manufacturer Straumann have combined their experience in the field of implantology and innovation to create the Chair in Zygomatic Implants. A New Digital Approach. As such, the two organisations are moving into the future and reinforcing their collaboration that began in July 2017 with the creation of the Straumann Classroom.

The new Chair, that forms part of the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Dentistry, has been set up with a view to strengthening relationships in the university world and providing rigorous and scientific knowledge of current dentistry practices from a clinical and technological point of view.

The Chair in Zygomatic Implants. A New Digital Approach, is led by Dr Federico Hernández-Alfaro and coordinated by Dr Adaia Valls and Dr Jorge Bertos, lecturers and researchers in the Faculty’s Area of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The Chair will focus particularly on digital approaches to zygomatic implants. This treatment is intended to rehabilitate patients who have lost all teeth and bone mass in their jaws and is the only alternative to removable prostheses with a palate.

Thanks to this initiative, Straumann and UIC Barcelona have established new avenues of cooperation to jointly develop research, training and knowledge transfer activities from a technological and clinical point of view in the dental sector.
