On 4, 5 and 6 Marcha virtual congress organised by the Spanish Society of Periodontics and Osseointegration (SEPA) took place in which students and lecturers Manuel Cabezas, Francesco di Leone, Álvaro Blasi, Gonzalo Blasi, Ignacio Blasi, Carmen Lorente, Javier Mora, Jesús Muñoz, Vanessa Ruiz, Patricia Solano, Adaia Valls, Álvaro García, Alberto Monje, Lucas Queiroz, Ernest Lucas, José Nart, Andreu Puigdollers, Marc Llaquet, Alejandra del Canto and Miguel Roig participated as presenters and moderators. With more than 8.000 registered participants from many countries, the congress involved dozens of scientific sessions and digital talks focusing on the field of periodontology.

On the first day of the conference, the session focused on digital workflows by introducing Corporate Forums, “a tool that demonstrates some of the main new features leading dental companies have incorporated in the field of periodontology and implant treatments”, explained participants from the faculty.

In the second session, the main theme was gummy smiles, addressing the essential aspects of etiology and diagnosis, altered passive eruption caused by a periodontal approach, the limitations of orthodontic or orthognathic surgery, caring for lip problems that interfere with gummy smiles and interdisciplinary treatment. There was a particular focus on the use of new technologies when planning treatment for gummy smiles and crown lengthening.

In the third and final session, various monographic meetings were held with dental hygienists to take a particularly practical and interdisciplinary approach to the 2021 SEPA Youth Congress’ scientific programme. “All the members of the Faculty of Dentistry were very proud to participate in such a successful congress where the UIC Barcelona brand left its mark,” said the lecturers and students who attended the event.
