Students and professors of the Faculty of Dentistry participate as speakers and coordinators in the SEPES-SEPA Clínica 2023 Conference programme
This is the meeting of the most important societies in the dental sector, the Spanish Society for Stomatological and Aesthetic Prostheses (SEPES) and the Spanish Society of Periodontics and Osteointegration (SEPA), to offer an update on the synergies between prosthesis and periodontics and their involvement in restorative treatments.
On 24 and 25 February, the World Trade Centre of Barcelona brought together researchers and leading professionals in the field of periodontics and prosthetics, to share and give an update on the latest lines of research and establish synergies with the aim of improving treatments and therapies for patients. With the title “Periodontal prostheses, an essential synergy for dentistry,” the conference was coordinated by Dr Sandra Fernández, on behalf of SEPES, and Dr Vanessa Ruiz-Magaz, on behalf of SEPA.
Dr Miguel Roig, head of Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry, and Dr Sandra Fernández, institutional vice-dean of the Faculty of Dentistry and member of the SEPES board of directors, welcomed the attendees and introduced the conference. The programme of this two-day meeting included ten sessions with presentations by experts in prosthetics and periodontics in which teachers and researchers from the Faculty of Dentistry participated.
On day one, Antonio Bujaldón and Raquel García kicked-off the programme with a joint session to answer questions on how to plan a periprosthetic case in healthy patients. Then, Carla Vidal, Álvaro Blasi and Gonzalo Blasi spoke on management of the gingival smile and its therapeutic treatment, and the perio restorative management of gum recession, respectively.
Day two continued with the participation of Dr Berta García-Mur, who spoke on implant therapy applied in cases of periodontitis, and Dr Miguel Roig focused on diagnosis and treatment of patients with stage IV periodontitis. The presentations on the last day ended with the participation of Dr Paul Levi, who presented the future perspective of periprosthetic treatments, and Dr José Nart, president of SEPA and head of the Periodontics area of the Faculty, who shared his view on the construction of an interdisciplinary and digital knowledge community.
SEPES Clínica is an annual meeting in which prosthetics and aesthetics, SEPES’s specialty areas, are combined with another dental discipline to provide an interdisciplinary view of prosthetic and aesthetic treatments.
