Students and Teachers from the Faculty of Dentistry participate with papers and presentations in the 2024 SEPA Congress

Representatives of the Periodontics area of the Faculty of Dentistry of UIC Barcelona participated in a new edition of the renowned sector meeting, where they stood out with the award for Best Presentation in Clinical Poster Format and for the Best Clinical Oral Presentation

The meeting organised by the Spanish Society of Periodontics and Osteointegration (SEPA) was held in Bilbao from 29 May to 1 June, and brought together researchers and leading professionals in the field of periodontics under the motto “Clinical excellence based on scientific evidence”.

Teachers from the Faculty, including José Nart, head of the area of Periodontics and president of SEPA, and students from the Master’s Degree in Periodontology and the International Master’s Degree in Oral Surgery participated in the congress giving workshops, talks and presenting papers in different formats.

In the communications section, Fares Al Hajeb received the award for Best Presentation in Clinical Poster Format for the project “Soft tissue conditioning around dental implants affected by recurrent Peri-Implant mucositis and Peri-Implantitis with free gingival grafts”, together with Álvaro Babiano, Lory Abrahamian, Berta García, Beatriz de Tapia and José Nart. Mariel López was awarded the award for Best Clinical Oral Presentaton for the work “How to guide the treatment of complex cases toward a less invasive dentistry?” with researchers Íñigo Arévalo, Jordi Gargallo and Pablo Altuna.

Enrique Roldán was finalist in the category of Oral Paper Research with the study “Effectiveness of aeropolidents in the perception of pain and the rate of compliance of periodontal maintenance therapy”, in collaboration with Tiago Ribeiro, Javier Vilarrasa, Cristina Vallés and José Nart. Beatriz de Tapia, lecturer of the Faculty and member of SEPA, was tasked with delivering the awards.

Once again, the participation of teachers and students of the Faculty of Dentistry in the SEPA Congress shows the excellent level of training and commitment to evidence-based research to contribute to improving public oral health.
