Study focused on the validation of rubrics in Nursing OSCE is awarded the SESSEP grant

The main researcher of the study, Laura Brichs, participated in the 11th congress of the Spanish Society of Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety (SESSEP), along with other teachers and researchers from the Nursing Department of UIC Barcelona. The group representing the University presented a total of three communications and a workshop for all attendees

From 18 to 20 April, a new edition of the congress of the Spanish Society of Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety (SESSEP) took place. The theme this year was “Educating with simulations for improvements and innovations in healthcare”.

Lecturer Laura Brichs presented the study based on her doctoral thesis, entitled “Validation of evaluative rubrics in the Nursing OSCE, with patient safety as the central axis”. Awarded the SESSEP grant, the project proposes to promote new methodologies in bachelor’s degrees in Nursing that would provide students with the skills necessary for real clinical practice with patient safety as a as fundamental pillar. Brichs based her research on creating a culture of safety and laying the foundations for future professional practice.

The Nursing Department of UIC Barcelona also stood out with presentations, posters and a workshop. Laura Brichs, Encarna Rodríguez, Mireia Llauradó, Cristina Alfonso, Laia Wennberg and Leandra Martín presented two papers: “Preparation of the clinical context and use of minor errors to raise awareness about patient safety” and “Lessons learned after the evaluation of simulation scenarios/OSCEs through video recordings”.

Laia Wennberg, Laura Brichs, Laura Tortosa, Martí Colet, Ramón Pedrosa, Estrella Curado and Aleix López also presented the poster “Simulation experience in zone 2 of 4th year in urgent and emergency care in the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing”.

In addition, the same group that presented the two papers gave a workshop for all attendees titled: “Premises for the development of an OSCE for undergraduate students”. As experts in the use of simulation in the teaching of the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, with this activity the lecturers offered the attendees an opportunity to learn and discuss the practical improvements in objective structured clinical evaluation by students of healthcare.

This participation reflects the Nursing Department’s continued commitment to academic excellence and innovation in the field of healthcare.
