Teachers and students from the Faculty of Dentistry shine at the SEPES 2024 congress with two awards and a solidarity grant

Representatives in the field of Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry from the Faculty of Dentistry at UIC Barcelona took part in a new edition of the sector's foremost meeting, where they were awarded the prize for the Best Clinical Oral Communication in the SEPES Junior category, the prize for the Best Communication in video format, and the SEPES Solidarity Scholarship

The SEPES Congress, organised by the Spanish Society of Stomatological and Aesthetic Prosthetics, is one of the most important events in the dental sector, bringing together professionals from all over Spain to share the latest advances in prosthetics and dental aesthetics. The meeting, which took place in Seville from 10 to 12 October, was attended by teachers and students from the Faculty of Dentistry presenting papers in different formats.

The Faculty of Dentistry stood out in this edition of the congress obtaining two awards in the communications section. Vassiliki Blathra, a third-year student of the Master's Degree in Advanced Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry, received the award for Best Clinical Oral Communication in the SEPES Junior category for her paper entitled "Virtual 4D patient - a fully digital workflow with mandibular dynamics - a case study". Meanwhile, Rocío de Paz García, alumni of the Master's Degree in Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry, won the prize for the Best Communication in video format for her project "Pocket closure in stable periodontal patients with bioclear matrices".

In addition to these individual successes, the Faculty of Dentistry was also acknowledged with the SEPES Solidarity Scholarship for the project Oral health for homeless groups in Barcelona: a welfare-preventive and social awareness-raising action. This initiative, promoted by UIC Barcelona in collaboration with the Associació Salut Sense Sostre, aims to provide oral health care and promote oral health prevention among disadvantaged groups in the city, helping to improve their quality of life.

As part of the Congress, the SEPES General Assembly was also held, where the Board of Directors was renewed for the period 2024-2027. Dr Sandra Fernández, institutional vice-dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, was ratified in her position as secretary-treasurer, thus acknowledging the work done by the Board chaired by Dr Guillermo Pradíes Ramiro.

In this edition, thanks to the collaboration agreement between the two institutions, once again the Faculty of Dentistry had a stand at the Congress where it could present its wide range of academic programmes.
