A team from UIC Barcelona, runner-up in the 2nd “Pasarela Judicial” Debating Tournament in Barcelona

On 28 and 29 April, UIC Barcelona’s Barcelona Campus hosted the semi-finals of the 2nd “Pasarela Judicial” Debating Tournament in Barcelona, organised by the Spanish Legal Debate Foundation. The final took place in Barcelona City Hall.

Between twelve and sixteen universities from around Spain took part in the tournament. The topic under discussion during the two days the event lasted was “Is the Constitutional Court correctly handling the Catalan independence movement?”.

Team UIC 1, made up of Fernando Roca, a student from the University Master’s Degree in the Legal Profession; Andrea Villena, a second-year Law student; Andrea Velasco, a second-year Law and Business Administration and Management student; and Meritxell Clemente, a second-year Business Administration and Management student, came in second in the tournament. As such, they qualify for this summer’s Master’s Cup, in which they will square off against the other champions and runners-up from the other cities in which the tournament was held.

The juries at these tournaments are comprised of magistrates; prosecutors from the Supreme Court, National Court, High Courts of Justice, Provincial Courts and single-judge courts; and lawyers.
