Teresa Martínez, president of OIDEL, is patron of the Faculty of Education Sciences graduation

The president of the NGO OIDEL, International Organisation for the Right to Education and Freedom of Teaching, Teresa Martínez, was the patron of the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Educational Sciences. The next generation of teachers from UIC Barcelona graduated on 19 June in the Aula Magna of the University

Enric Vidal, dean of the Faculty, presided over the event and addressed the new teachers, stressing the social importance of a teacher’s work. Vidal emphasised “the responsibility and privilege of training new teachers.”

As patron of the graduation, the president of OIDEL reminded the new graduates that they were now stepping into the other side of the classroom. “Graduation is the beginning of a great adventure. Now you will return to the classroom in a different role, as teachers. It’s time to build your personal path,” she told them. She also invited the students to become the change they want to see in the classrooms: “You are now the protagonists of education,” she reminded them, “so it is important to know yourselves.”

At the end of the event, just after the speeches of the class representatives, Enric Vidal addressed the new graduates, following the same thread of the patron. The dean recalled the importance of education in the advancement and improvement of future society. “The first thing is to love the students as they are and then offer them opportunities for change. To generate a change in them it is necessary to change yourself and aim for personal improvement.”
