Three UIC Barcelona researchers write a chapter about caring for the elderly for a book published by the editorial Routledge
The study published by the British editorial house Routledge focuses on the caring relationships that are built when looking after the elderly
Dr Belén Zárate, Dr Consuelo León and Dr Remei Agulles have published “From Care in the Home to the Transformation of Other Care Environments in Homes” in the book People, Care and Work in the Home, published by the British editorial Routledge.
What happens when caring for older people at home becomes impossible or undesirable? The study explores the essential characteristics of care within the family under this premise and presents different initiatives that have been implemented in the healthcare and residential care sectors in Spain.
The publication sheds light on the vulnerability many people face when they reach a certain age and the fact that most seek the support of closer and more solid interpersonal relationships. The chapter presents secondary studies in order to demonstrate, from the perspectives of both the carers and those being cared for, that the home and family are always the first and most valued choice.
