Timecode, directed by Juanjo Giménez, has been nominated for an award at the Oscars ceremony which will be held on 26 February. The short film, produced by one of our professors, Arturo Méndiz, is one of five films nominated for the award for best short fictional film at the 89th edition of the Oscar’s awards ceremony, according to an official announcement released by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

This is the first time in history that a Catalan short film has achieved this prestigious nomination and if it wins it would be the first time a Spanish short film has won an Oscar.

Former Audiovisual Communication student Jose Parcerisa worked as production manager on the short film Timecode, which this year won the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival.

Timecode is the story of a relationship that arises between two security guards in a parking lot, who only see each other for a few minutes each day, when they change shifts. This relationship is not expressed through words, but instead through the magic of a shared passion. This short film, which was directed by Juanjo Giménez (Barcelona, 1963) has received a large number of awards and a lot of recognition. In May it won the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival. Through this award, Giménez has become the second Spanish recipient of the Palme d'Or after Luis Buñuel, who won the feature-length film category with his film Viridiana.
