TV3 Telethon Finances UIC Cancer Research Project

TV3 Telethon Foundation's board of trustees has allocated €81,875 to the UIC to finance a research project as part of a programme to help fund research on cancer, the topic of TV3's 2012 fundraising telethon.

The research team that received the grant is led by Dr. Josep Clotet, the Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Director of the Department of Basic Sciences at the UIC, and the UIC lecturer Dr. Javier Jiménez. The research team accepted the award on Tuesday, 12 November 2013, at an official ceremony held in the auditorium of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park. The team was set up as a result of a consortium between UIC investigators, researchers from idcsalud Hospital General de Catalunya (with the participation of Dr. Miguel Ángel Carrasco and Dr. Sara Simonetti) and researchers from the University of Illinois at Chicago (with the participation of Dr. Stephen Kron).

Using a peer-review process managed by the Agency for Health Quality and Assessment of Catalonia, a total of 317 projects were assessed with the participation of 257 international cancer experts.
