Drs. Guillermo Carabí and Judith Urbano are members of the Bellesguard Research Group, which has spent a year and half researching the Bellesguard Tower, its methods of construction and the works carried out by Gaudí. The Tower opened its doors to the public for the first time on Tuesday, 17 September 2013.
Those taking part in the opening ceremony included the Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias; the government ministers Ferran Mascarell and Felip Puig; and Oriol Junqueras, leader of the political party ERC.
The Bellesguard Tower is one of Gaudí’s least-known works, yet it is also one of the most historic. Visitors will now be able to observe some of the architectural techniques used by Gaudí for the very first time, before their later reprise in buildings such as the Sagrada Familia. Notable elements include the underground stables and the Sala dels Maons, or Chamber of Bricks, a music room that was designed by the architect to provide perfect acoustics.
Over the last year and a half, the Bellesguard Research Group – comprising Drs. Carabí and Urbano and a dozen other researchers from a variety of disciplines – has had the opportunity to study the building, and will soon make the fruits of its research public.
