Two groups of Education students win the 13th Cross-Disciplinary Sustainability Workshop
The 13th Cross-Disciplinary Sustainability Workshop: Water for a sustainable world, took place on 25 November. In this year’s research project competition, 220 students, divided into 54 groups, were given the option of designing either a practical workshop or a scientific poster. Students from the Faculty of Education Sciences made up two of the winning groups.
The competition awarded a total of three prizes: two for the scientific poster category, and one for the practical workshop category. The two groups were awarded the recognition for the poster and workshop category respectively. The third group was comprised of students from the University Master’s Degree in Business Management and Production Systems at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences.
The project “Cada gota cuenta” (Every drop counts) devised by students Queralt Güell, Mireia Garcia and Ania Berbel from the Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education, was awarded the prize for best scientific poster. The group explained how the main objective of their research was to delve into the issue of water pollution, scarcity and waste, three of the main challenges facing today’s 21st century society.
Similarly, the winning project in the practical workshop category was "Creation of a didactic resource for water purification and exploitation”, by students Irene Toranzo, Núria Mediero, Lea Serrallach, Júlia Nieto and Mar Melero from the Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education’s bilingual programme.
This group proposed ways of reusing water, focusing on the design and application of a water filter made from universally affordable materials. They also encouraged reflection to look for alternatives to using non-drinking water and raising awareness of responsible water consumption.
