Two Humanities and one Education students receive the 2022 Berkeley grant
Of the seventeen student nominations submitted, and of the ten finalists who completed the interview stage, the grants were finally awarded to Laura Isabel Barragán and Natalia Claveria, students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities, and Marta Díez, from the Bachelor’s Degree in Education and Psychology.
These grants awarded by the University itself offer students the chance to take part in the Berkeley Summer Sessions programme held this summer at the University of California in Berkeley, United States.
All students can apply for this grant, having been recommended by their Faculty, if they have a strong academic record and a high level of English. The three students who have been awarded the funds this year, “will do a wonderful job in representing UIC Barcelona”, said Alba Valle, International Mobility coordinator at the University.
Students can study for between three and eight weeks during the summer holidays and take various subjects, which will be recognised in the form of credits as part of the degree programme they are studying here. We hear from Natàlia Claveria: “I decided to sign up, encouraged by my Law tutor, as I thought I could choose subjects that would help me recognise credits for both degree programmes. I am interested in the following classes: Foundations of Legal Studies, Environmental Policy, Administration, and Law and, finally, Basic Musicianship, which will help me with my Humanities studies”.
Laura Barragán is also delighted to be offered such a “rich experience”, saying that “the programmes offered at Berkeley are very interesting and touch on areas related to both my studies and my personal interests”.
Marta Díez also wants to take the opportunity to learn more about her field, psychology, “in addition to other more general subjects, such as Current Topics on Social Welfare”.
This grants programme is possible thanks to the agreement that UIC Barcelona has held with the University of Berkeley for the past six years.
