Two Periodontics Master's Students Receive Grant to Attend Course on Bone Regeneration

Two students from the Faculty of Dentistry's Master's Degree Programme in Periodontics have received grants to attend a congress organized by the Osteology Research Academy, which will take place in September in Lucerne, Switzerland. The grants were awarded by the Spanish Society for Periodontology and Osseointegration (SEPA) and Inibsa Dental.

The grants were awarded in a ceremony that took place on Wednesday, 24 July 2013, in one of the classrooms on the Sant Cugat campus. Present at the event were Javier García, the CEO at SEPA; Miriam Orteu, the category manager at Inibsa Dental; Dr Lluís Giner, the faculty dean; and Alberto Gómez and Jaume Mestres, the two students receiving the grants.

This year’s edition of the Osteology Research Academy congress is titled “Comparative Histology and Volumetric Change in Guided Bone Regeneration Using Two Grafting Materials (Xenograft vs. Mineralized, Lyophilized Allograft): A Randomized Clinical Study”. A total of just two grants (of €4,000 each) were awarded, covering registration, travel and accommodation costs.

The winning students were chosen on the basis of the projects they submitted, which had to have a research-based focus (whether basic, pre-clinical or clinical). The aim of Inibsa Dental and SEPA is to promote training and research in the field of maxillofacial and oral bone regeneration while developing scientific production and disseminating the research of Spanish universities.
