Two Physiotherapy Lecturers Help Create Tool for Analysing Posture in 3D
Lecturers Juan Ramón Revilla and José Ramírez have helped create a tool that automatically and accurately analyses a person’s posture in 3D. The tool, known as ADiBAS Posture, makes use of depth-map technology obtained from the Kinect™ camera. The data provided by the software determine distances and body angles based on the user’s requirements. The system also makes it possible to quantify the spinal column’s Cobb angle.
Poor posture can cause joint and muscle pain, especially in the back. Evaluating posture makes it easier to identify the body’s deformities and asymmetries. Clinical evaluation of posture is frequently conducted based on observation, but studies have shown that visual inspection can be unreliable. This problem requires a tailor-made solution, which is why this group of experts and researchers spent four years developing this tool.
