Two Physiotherapy Professors Participate in Book on Sports-Related Muscle Injuries

Montserrat Pujol, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiotherapy, and the volunteer professor Laura Pacheco participated in the publication of the book «Lesiones Musculares en el Deporte» (Muscle Injuries in Sports), coordinated by Dr. Ramon Balius and Carles Pedret.

The book is divided into three parts and is a guide to muscular physiopathology and available treatments for each type of condition. The book also addresses the need for a multidisciplinary approach to the proper treatment of injuries and the role of each professional involved.

In the first part, "Basic Principles of Muscle Injury", the authors explain muscle anatomy, the classification of injuries, their diagnosis and the recommended course of both medical treatment and physiotherapy.

The second part, "Physiopathological Causes of Muscle Injury", discusses sports-related injuries and their most commonly associated complications.

Finally, the third part, "Specific Muscle Injuries", deals with the muscles most susceptible to sports-related injury. It discusses the most commonly practiced sports and the injuries associated with them, as well as the most commonly employed protocol, such as diagnostic imaging and appropriate treatment.
