UIC Barcelona and St. John’s University strengthen their ties

The Dean and Vice-Dean of the North American University’s Faculty of Law have returned to the Barcelona Campus of UIC Barcelona a year after signing their agreement

UIC Barcelona has hosted representatives from St. John’s University in New York in light of the agreement signed last year between the two institutions. The meeting has helped strengthen their existing cooperative alliance and was attended by the Dean and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law at St. John’s University, Mike Simons and Sarah Kelly, and the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law at UIC Barcelona, Montserrat Gas, as well as the Faculty’s lecturer and International Relations coordinator, Maria Mut.

Following the meeting, Simons gave a mock class to students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Law, where he presented different perspectives from a court case. The Dean of the Faculty of Law from St John’s University posed several challenges to the students, who subsequently debated the possible ways of approaching a case.

UIC Barcelona and St. John’s University in New York have had an agreement since 2019, which allows students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Law in Barcelona to take the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in the United States. Unlike UIC Barcelona, very few Spanish universities have direct access to this internationally renowned postgraduate programme in Law. After taking this course, students will be able to apply for the Bar Exam. If they pass, they will be qualified to practice Law in the United States.
